The Dream run is over – for now

On Thursday night our dream run in the U17’s national schools came to an end at the quarter final stages as we lost a rather bruising encounter with Myerscough basketball academy. Our team did themselves and the JPA basketball programme proud by standing “toe to toe” with one of the strongest U17’s team in the country.

After a strong start we started to understandably struggle with the physical size and athleticism of the visiting team. One of our spectators quotes “why are year ten playing against men?”

I am so pleased with how well we have done in this competition with all students playing up at least one year group and some two. A quote from coach Heath ”I was really proud of how they played, one of our players was exceptional and both their coaches commented on his performance after the game, we shot way better than them but ultimately couldn’t stop their drives – just too big and athletic”. For anyone that knows Coach Heath this is high praise indeed!!

We will regroup quickly and go again tonight at the Vertu Motors arena where the U16’s and U19’s take on Dame Allen. Next week the next round of U16’s national schools. Watch this space.
