Comprehensive Choices

We offer a great choice of A Level and BTEC options to ensure we can accommodate all student abilities and most course/subject combinations and lead them onto their chosen progression routes. You can view our course entry requirements on page 59 in the prospectus.

Our Bridging Courses, held in June 2024, are designed to give you a taster of your chosen subjects, so you can be confident you have made the right choice and will enjoy your time in our Sixth Form.

A Levels

You will choose three A Levels to study across a two year period, leading up to final examination assessment.

There is no coursework for most subjects and this won’t count towards your A Level. AS level exams are no longer available. It is all about what you achieve at the end of the two years. Only students who have an average grade of A (or equivalent) at GCSE, or those doing Further Maths, may be allowed to take four A Levels.

BTEC Level 3

In addition to, or as an alternative to A Level courses, students can select from a range of BTEC subjects that are either academically or vocationally focussed.

We offer BTEC courses in Level 3 Business, IT, Creative Digital Media Production, Travel and Tourism, Health and Social Care and Applied Science.

EPQ

The Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a  standalone qualification designed to extend and develop students' abilities beyond the A Level syllabus and prepare for university or their future career. The EPQ is worth half an A Level and is a qualification which many universities look at when giving offers.

The EPQ allows students to lead their own projects. Students plan and carry out research on a topic that they've chosen and isn't covered by their other qualifications. They can take inspiration from something touched on in class or something personal and unrelated to their studies. They then use this research to produce a written report and, in the case of practical projects, an artefact or a production. Students are required to spend 120 hours on their project, 30 hours of which is taught.
