Sports Day – Wednesday 17th July

Due to the continued poor weather, our playing fields are not in a fit state to run our school sports day safely. The ground is wet, muddy and slippery.  If we were to go ahead with this event there would almost inevitably be some injury to students and considerable damage to the playing fields. The poor state of the grounds also means that the grass banks that we use for seating students is unusable without causing children to get wet, muddy and uncomfortable.  To add to the complication, our North AstroTurf is being resurfaced.

We understand that Wednesday itself may well be quite pleasant weather, however that is not the issue.  It is the sustained wet weather over the last few weeks that has made this event untenable.

To ensure that our students still experience a mini sports day, we will be running the indoor section of the sports day.  This means that each year group will get two lessons of the day in the PE department playing, “Beach Volleyball”.

Lessons 1-2    Year 7

Lessons 3-4    Year 8

Lesson 5-6      Year 9

Students should attend school in full uniform but wearing training shoes so they can take part in the sports activity.  During the sports session, we will also ensure that students receive their PRAISE reward of visiting the ice-cream van.

Thursday Activity Day

All students attend school at the normal time.  All students will attend registration before either:

Leaving Jesmond Park Academy for the day to go on a pre-organised trip.  For example, the Kingswood trip, bike ride or Jesmond Dene. You will already know if your child is doing this. Children on school trips do not need to wear school uniform but they must be dressed suitably for the activity that they are undertaking.

Those children remaining in school will be given a timetable of activities for the day. Children remaining in school should wear their full uniform but with a pair of training shoes rather than school shoes to ensure they can take part in all of the activities on offer.

Friday 19th July

Lessons 1-2 Y10 mini sports day and PRAISE ice creams in the PE department

Please note school finishes 12.15 on Friday.

Yours faithfully,
