Basketball Success - A True underdog story

This year we decided to enter our very young U16s team not only in their own national schools competition but also in the age group above in the U17 competition. This rather bold move appeared to have backfired when we drew perennial basketball powerhouse Blue Coats from Liverpool. This also came at a particularly bad time when the squad was somewhat depleted missing Leonardo, George, Harry R and Ben.

Time for the rest of the squad to step up and they did with style, Mathew hitting 3’s, Nye splashing a couple of mid-range jumpers, backed up with solid free throws. Will and Riley controlling the game from the guard spot. Harry showing some electrifying footwork making him very difficult to guard and Joseph scoring at all three levels. With some of our starters getting into early foul trouble the bench players also stepped up when needed with invaluable minutes from Bruno, Arad, Emanuel steading the ship, giving key players a rest and seeing us over the line in an incredible 90-78 win.

A special mention to Joseph who showed his most disciplined performance yet for JPA, following instructions to the letter and putting on a defensive masterclass.

Up next more basketball “royalty” as we host Myerscough College in the quarterfinals.
