PERIOD 7 AND PERIOD 7+

Date Published:
Friday 26 January 2024

We are running a series of Period 7s for selected students between now and the end of term.  Letters and emails will be sent to the parent/carers of those specific students, and a hard copy given to students in school, so please look out for them.

Drama P7 + P7+ (2:45-5pm)

Year 11 Drama students are rehearsing for their Component 3: Texts in Practice, a scripted performance to an external examiner, which will happen before the Easter break.  This is worth 20% of their overall GCSE grade.

For Component 3, students have to perform two extracts from a published play.  The preparation and rehearsal time for this is extensive.  As part of the process, students need to have an extended period of time to rehearse in one go.  This is to ensure they have the time to show they can apply an extensive range of performing skills and knowledge of creating theatre, as precisely and effectively as possible.

In order to give the students a continuous extended period of time to rehearse, there has already taken place an extended Period 7 on 17 January. There will be second one on Wednesday 31 January 2024, which will run until 5pm. This will allow students time to not only rehearse their extracts focusing on their performing skills, but to also complete a technical rehearsal.

Students will have P7 every Wednesday until the end of March which is when the students exam will be. This is so students have enough time to ensure their performances are as strong as they can be for their performance exam to an external examiner on Wednesday 27th March.

Design Technology

We will be running a Period 7 Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until the end of term.

This is to support students with improvements and completion of NEA work, which will count towards their final GCSE Grade. Letters will be sent to applicable students.

Maths/Further Maths GCSE

As you will be aware, our strongest mathematicians in Year 11 will sit an additional qualification during the summer exam series this year; AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics (8365).  This qualification assesses higher order mathematical skills in greater depth than the GCSE exam, preparing pupils to maximise their potential in further studies, whether they choose to study A-Level Mathematics or not.

As part of the process of preparation for the final exams, it is important that pupils are given a chance to attempt a Further Mathematics paper in exam conditions to familiarise themselves with the question style and working to time.

In order to give the students a “mock” exam in Further Maths there will be an additional, slightly extended, Period 7 session on Wednesday 14 February, which will run until 3:45pm.  If you have any questions please contact your child’s maths teacher.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

MFL Speaking Assessments

Selected MFL students will be sitting their Speaking Assessments w/c 29 January.

Students are required to report to the MFL department at the end of the school day as indicated on the individual timetable that will be provided, and may be with us as late as 5pm.
