The Year 8 football team played in the Newcastle City League finals on Wednesday 19th April at Benfield School. The city is split east and west; at the end of the season the top two teams from each league come together to play each other on one night.
Having won all but one game (a last-minute defeat to Benfield) in the east league, the team finished top and played the west league runners up, Kenton. They were brilliant from the first whistle, dominating possession and as a result ended the game a well deserved 4-1 winners.
That meant they played the winner of the other semi-final, Benfield, who beat St. Cuthberts 6-0.
Again, the team were brilliant against a Benfield team who were physically bigger and faster than us. Some of the football they played was well beyond their years. They were frustrated to be 0-0 at half time, but their attitude in the second half was very positive, which paid off as they finished 3-0 winners and lifted the league trophy for a second time having also won the league final, against Benfield in Year 7.
