Our Sixth Form students have kindly supported two local charities this festive season

Over the past few weeks, students in our Sixth Form have been incredibly busy collecting items for two Newcastle charities.

Students collected food, clothing, toys and selection boxes for Vinnie's, a charity based on New Bridge Street as well as food, clothing, hand warmers and sleeping bags for Streetworx.

Vinnie's is a local charity which works with the homeless, refugees, families in need and the socially isolated. It provides a food and clothing bank, a pay if you can cafe, English lessons and a hostel for those who are at danger of becoming homeless. In addition, some of our students also volunteer their time, as part of our Sixth Form Enrichment Programme and, Tersea, the volunteer co-ordinator at Vinnie's recently commented 'They are amazing. A real credit to your school'. We are incredibly proud.

In addition, the Sixth Formers also collected in a raft of items for Streetworx. A Newcastle based charity, Streetworx delivers food, drinks, clothing and sleeping bags to the homeless of Newcastle. Unlike other groups who may have a location or a venue with which to provide outreach, Streetworx teams go to where the homeless are and go around the streets of Newcastle on a Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. Over the past few years, the number of street homeless has increased and Streetworx provides invaluable support for the people they see.

We are incredibly proud with the drive the students have shown in providing items. A special mention also has to go to the Student Council for organising the collection in forms. Well done!
