As part of the annual Newcastle Noir Crime Fiction Festival Sixth Form students took part in a crime fiction workshop with French author Johana Gustawsson. Johana is an award winning crime writer, her "Roy & Castells" series is being adapted for TV.

She was here to tell us about herself and her latest book "The Bleeding" and to give our students some ideas on creative writing and crime fiction.

The students were asked to write a short piece. They had to come up with a location and think about the season or weather, the time of day and a place of interest. The narrative had to involve a conflict. The students came up with some great ideas, settings were as wide ranging as Holy Island and Bangladesh. They presented their work to the rest of the group with feedback from Johana who was very impressed by some of the work. We have some budding authors here.

We'd like to thank the organisers of Newcastle Noir and to Johana for running the event.
