Year 10 Summer Mocks: Monday 15 June 2025 – Wednesday 1 July 2025
Dear Parent/Carer,
As we approach our May half-term break, our focus is turning to our Year 10 Summer mock GCSE examinations. We are holding these between Monday 15 June 2026 and Wednesday 1 July 2026.
As we work towards our Year 10 Summer mocks, our advice remains the same for our Year 10 students as it has for our Year 11 students who are in the middle of their GCSE examinations.
It is important that your child finds the balance between completing productive study, examination preparation, and revision for these mocks, alongside taking clearly defined breaks and time away completely for family time, fun, rest, and relaxation. This is vital for your child’s health and wellbeing. Our absolute priority is to support our Year 10 students both academically and with their health and well-being in the lead up to, during and after the Year 10 mocks.
With this in mind we held a ‘How to Support your Child in the Year 10 Summer Mocks’ live TEAMS meeting on Thursday 7 May 2026. The event outlined the plan for the remainder of Year 10 and included details on revision best practice in the lead up to the Year 10 mock exams. If you missed the presentation, you can find the PowerPoint presentation here - https://youtu.be/eLngEvXVaas
The following information provides initial details about the support for our Year 10 students and parents/carers at Jesmond Park Academy as we approach the mocks.
General Information Regarding the Year 10 Mocks
We are holding an assembly for our Year 10 students launching the countdown to our Year 10 mocks, which will focus upon the support in place for them. Our Year 10 teachers will also be talking to our Year 10 students about the expectations and topics in individual subjects and we will be giving our students finalised subject specific revision lists and a copy of their personalised mock examination timetable. Nearer to the time we will email an overview of the mock examination timetable as well as a subject revision list, which you and your child may find useful for revision planning.
GCSE & BTEC Revision Guides
We have ordered revision guides for all Year 10 students in the core subjects of English, Maths, and Science. Unfortunately, although we ordered them earlier this academic year, due to supplier issues and the numbers of guides required, the Maths and Science guides have not yet arrived in school. As soon as they do, we will distribute them. The English guides cover a variety of curriculum content in English Language & Literature and are being distributed at key times during the course. Attached to this letter is a list of other revision guides (and associated ISBN numbers) which match the curriculum content and specification of some of the KS4 courses that we teach. This is not an exhaustive list and does not include all our subjects. Last year we gave parent/carers the opportunity to order guides from the school via Scopay. Again, due to supplier issues, this proved problematic, and parent/carers would have been better off ordering themselves via any well know book supplier. Therefore, if you would like to purchase revision guides for your child you can use our list as to which guides to purchase as these match our specifications and exam boards.
GCSEPod
All of our students now have personal login access to GCSEPod, which is an interactive online revision and resource tool.
Summer Mock Examination Support in Personal Development Lessons
Our Year 10 Personal Development teachers are delivering lessons on ‘how to revise’ and ‘how to effectively prepare yourself for examinations’. This also includes further support on how to use revision guides effectively.
Compulsory Period 7 Guided Revision Programme for Year 10 Students
There will be a compulsory Period 7 guided revision programme in place for all Year 10 students after the May Half-Term in preparation for their mock exams. We are planning this alongside our support in place for our Year 11 students who are still ongoing with their GCSE examinations. The guided revision will consist of silent revision using revision guides and other key revision materials. Students are responsible for bringing their revision guides and other revision material with them. Students will also be supported in making flash cards, mind maps etc. to aide their revision.
The sessions will take place at the following dates and times after the Half-Term break. Students are expected to attend all Period 7s allocated and on these days, school for your child will not finish until 3:30pm.
The Period 7 sessions take place in either the restaurant or the first floor corridor. The location/seat will be indicated by either R (Restaurant) or F (First floor corridor) and this information has been provided in the version of this letter that has been emailed to parents/carers and students.
Attendance will be monitored and full attendance to every session is expected. Three Planner comments are given for an unauthorised absence from a Period 7 session.
If there is an extenuating circumstance as to why your child is unable to attend a particular Period 7 session, please contact Mrs Hooker (Head of KS4) or Miss Sayers (Head of Year 10) in advance of the session, and the absence from Period 7 can be authorised on that occasion.
Year 10 Summer Mocks Results’ Afternoon
This will take place towards the end of term and will hopefully provide our students with a ‘real’ experience of GCSE results day after all of their hard work in the lead up to the mocks.
Year 10 Full School Report
This will include your child’s form tutor report, mock results, subject grades, and subject next-step targets for Year 11. We will publish this to parents/carers before the end of the summer term.
Unfortunately, due to timing, there may not be much further interaction between school and home once we have sent out our report, but please be rest assured that we will be using the outcomes from the mocks (and other student assessments) to plan support for our Year 10 students going into Year 11.
Year 10 Work Experience Week: Monday 6 July 2026 – Friday 10 July 2026
We are continuing to support our Year 10 students to enable them to successfully secure a work experience placement for this week. Once your child has secured a placement, they should register it on Unifrog. We have written to you before with details surrounding this. If you need any further help or advice at this stage please email:
Lorraine Aspinall (LAspinall@jesmondparkacademy.org.uk) or Sarah Beeley (SBeeley@jesmondparkacademy.org.uk)
We will endeavour to ensure that as many students as possible secure a placement. For those students who have not, attendance to school during work experience week is compulsory as normal, and we intend to hold ‘in-school’ work-related learning activities for those students.
As we have already said, our absolute priority is to support our Year 10 students both academically and with their health and well-being throughout the remainder of this year and throughout Year 11.
If you have any further questions or information regarding our Year 10 mocks, or you have further information which will help us support your child, please contact Miss Louise Sayers (Head of Year 10) at LSayers@jesmondparkacademy.org.uk.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs Claire Smith - Deputy Principal
Mrs H Hooker - Head of KS4
