RSE Policy Consultation

Dear Parents/Carers,

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Policy Consultation

Jesmond Park Academy is committed to ensuring that its Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) provision reflects the needs of pupils, meets statutory requirements and supports young people to develop healthy, respectful relationships and make informed decisions about their health, safety and wellbeing.

We are therefore consulting on proposed revisions to the academy’s Relationships and Sex Education Policy.

Why are we consulting?

Relationships and Sex Education plays an important role in supporting pupils to:

  • develop positive, healthy and respectful relationships;
  • understand personal wellbeing, safety and consent;
  • recognise and respond appropriately to risks, including those encountered online; and
  • prepare for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life.

We value the views of parents and carers and welcome feedback on the proposed changes.

Key proposed changes

The main changes to the policy include:

  • alignment with the Department for Education’s 2025 statutory RSHE guidance;
  • expanded health and wellbeing education;
  • enhanced safeguarding and online safety content;
  • increased parental engagement and access to teaching materials; and
  • a greater focus on equality, inclusion and support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Consultation period

  • Consultation opens: Monday, 19 October 2026 at 9.00am
  • Consultation closes: Sunday, 15 November 2026 at 11.59pm
