Lower School

Years 7, 8 and 9 have one Computing lesson every week.
Key Stage 3 Computing comprises of several strands:

Computer Science

  • The equipment required for a system

  • The binary number system

  • How computers 'think'

  • The construction of networks

Digital literacy

  • Using software and search engines effectively

Online Safety

  • Being aware of our 'digital footprints'

  • 'Netiquette'

Data handling

  • Creating and using databases and being aware of how our information is used

Programming

  • Coding in a variety of high level languages

  • Game development using Kodu and Scratch


The students start off in year 7 being able to use the network and access all the software before learning the fundamentals about algorithms and control. They then complete, roughly, one module per half term until the end of year 9 where they complete an extended project. The course teaches students how to think logically and also reinforces topics covered in maths.


Upper School

We offer optional GCSE and Vocational courses to year 10 and 11 students including:

  • GCSE Business Studies

  • GCSE Computing

  • Travel & Tourism

  • Enterprise

  • Vocational Media

  • Vocational qualifications in ICT, Enterprise, Media Production and Travel & Tourism

 


Sixth Form

The courses we run in sixth form are all very popular and attract a good mix of students. We offer a variety of AS/A2 and BTEC Level 3 courses including: 

  • Business A Level

  • Business BTEC National Level 3 (AS & A Level equivalent)

  • Creative Digital Media BTEC National Level 3 (A Level equivalent)

  • Computing A Level

  • Economics A Level

  • Information Technology BTEC  National Level 3 (AS & A Level equivalent)

  • Photography A Level

 

We are very proud of the facilities we have to offer our students with up to date hardware, industry standard software applications and state of the art digital editing facilities. We are also proud of the support teachers offer our students with coursework and exam preparation, including lunch time clubs and after school clubs.

We also offer some wonderful experiences as part of our courses, including visiting speakers, visits to different businesses, BBC School Report and other activities and competitions e.g. Gaming & Programming.
