MAT Letter to Parents - Covid-19 - 13th March

13 March 2020

Dear Parent / Carer

We understand that there is a great deal of anxiety and concern about Covid-19, the new coronavirus.

We are working closely with Public Health England, the Department for Education and local authorities. We will follow advice and guidance closely. Principals and senior staff meet daily to keep fully informed and up to date. All staff are working extremely hard to keep everyone safe.

Currently there are no confirmed cases at any of our schools. However, the Government/NHS are now advising that anyone with a new continuous cough or high temperature should self-isolate for 7 days.

If we are instructed to close our schools, our priority will be to focus on supporting those students due to take public examinations this summer. This means mainly Year 11 and year 13, but will also include any Year 10 or 12 students if they have examinations scheduled for vocational qualifications. On each school’s website we will be publishing guidance as to what these students need to be working on for each subject. In addition to these tasks that students can get on with independently, teachers will be using Frog to set specific assignments and give feedback, where appropriate. At this stage, with almost all GCSE and A level content already covered, we are confident that these remote learning strategies will be effective; they are well suited to revision and exam preparation. We know that many trips and visits are planned in the coming months – especially in the last week of summer term. We are really sorry that this may be causing worry or uncertainty.

DfE guidelines that were sent out last night stated:

"Schools and colleges are being advised against all overseas trips for children under 18 until further notice. This is one of the latest measures announced as part of the Government’s coronavirus response."

Because of this all trips abroad are now cancelled.

Insurance companies do not make any refunds unless the Foreign Office rules against travel. We are speaking with our insurance providers and will update you as soon as we have any information about potential refunds.

We deeply regret this situation, hope that normality soon returns and that the many and varied activities and trips that enrich our students’ experience of school are able to go ahead as usual.

Yours sincerely

Hugh Robinson - Chief Executive Officer

David Sheppard - Chief Operating Officer

Chris Duckett - Executive Director of teaching, learning and communications
